Mr. Morgan was born in Columbus, Georgia on January 20, 1952. He attended Columbus public schools and graduated from Hardaway High School in 1970. Upon graduation from high school, he completed his first year of college at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Thereafter, he transferred to Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, where he graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. His major field of undergraduate study was accounting.
Mr. Morgan attended law school at the University of Georgia and graduated in 1976. His elective coursework while in law school consisted mainly of courses related to business organizations, trusts, and estates. Upon graduation from the University of Georgia, Mr. Morgan was employed by the First National Bank of Birmingham (now AmSouth) in its Trust Department. After two years, he left First National Bank of Birmingham for private practice with a small firm of attorneys in Phenix City, Alabama, located just across the state line from Columbus, Georgia. After three years of private practice, Mr. Morgan returned to the banking field and he was employed in the Trust Division of Columbus Bank and Trust Company (now Synovus Trust Company, N.A.).Mr. Morgan remained with Columbus Bank and Trust until March of 1988 when he became associated with the firm of Layfield & Rothschild, the firm now known as Rothschild & Morgan, P.C. Mr. Morgan now devotes much of his time to representation of the Columbus Airport Commission, general corporate work (including commercial real estate transactions), estate planning and related litigation.
Mr. Morgan is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (1976), the Alabama State Bar (1978), the bars of the United States District Courts for Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia and Middle District of Alabama, the United Stated Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a member of the Georgia and American Academies of Hospital Attorneys, the American Association of Airport Executives and the Georgia Defense Lawyer's Association.
